Selain Carragher, koresponden sepak sola senior untuk The Independent, Melissa Reddy, juga menyampaikan kekecewaannya atas keputusan Liverpool tersebut.

"Ini sebuah langkah yang mengecewakan dari Liverpool," tulis Reddy dalam cuitannya.

"Mereka mendapat penghasilan sebelum pajak sebesar 42 juta pound dan peningkatan omzet menjadi 533 juta pound pada 2018-19 dan dimiliki oleh seorang pria dengan kekayaan bersih di atas 2 miliar pound."

"Ini seakan menghilangkan semua kerja bagus yang sudah mereka lakukan selama krisis ini," tulis Melissa menambahkan.

Lots of 'it's practical' talk, but a disappointing move from Liverpool, who made a pre-tax profit of £42m and increased turnover to £533m in 2018-19 and are owned by a man with a net worth upwards of £2bn. Undercuts a lot of the good work they've done during this crisis.

Tak hanya Carragher dan Melissa saja yang mengkritik keputusan Liverpool mengistirahatkan karyawannya.

Tokoh-tokoh sepak bola Inggris juga turut menyampaikan kritik untuk kebijakan The Reds itu.

Liverpool spent £43.8m on agents' fees between February 2018 and January 2019 – that figure would keep around 500 staff on full pay for almost 10 months. Premier League clubs using furlough is morally repugnant. UEFA have also relaxed FFP to allow clubs to survive this period.

So Liverpool, the 7th richest football club in the world, places non playing staff on furlough, but expects the Government to pay 80% of their salaries. Wouldn’t it be better to let the Govt keep the money to put to better use and the Club pays 100%?
